FIRST EDITION. Large folio (532 x 356mm), lithographed title and vignette, dedication, and 27 tinted lithographs by Lewis after Coke Smyth, 2 showing two subjects.

Lewis did not begin his Eastern travels until 1839, and these superb lithographs are after Coke Smyth. He was later to immerse himself fully in Eastern life, partly inspired by these drawings. This extremely rare book is considered one of the premier plate books on the Ottoman world. References: Atabey 722; Weber I 1126; cf. Blackmer 1015; Abbey 394.
