1838 - Constantinople and the Scenery of The Seven Churches (Thomas Allom)

Thomas Allom was an illustrator who had visually captured Turkey before photography was invented. Like David Roberts and William H. Bartlett, Allom was one of the great artists to travel to the Near East in the early 1800s. Allom's scenic portraiture coupled with Robert Walsh's (Chaplain to the British Embassy at the Ottoman Porte) descriptive commentary, are a cultural, historical, and artistic treasure that has cried out for a wider audience.
